Living Cork

Year: 2022
Studio: 2.2

The project centers around the innovative reuse of natural materials for the construction of the proposal. Located on the site of the former printing factory Heidelberg in Brentford, the project embraces the existing portal frame structure, and integrated cork collected from local wine bottles to form our primary building material.

The proposal features two distinct components, a cork factory, and an open public space that includes outdoor yoga studios and a wine bar. The cork that is collected will be transformed into modular walls, which will then be distributed to local schools and small businesses.

The aim is to create a social hub for the community of Brentford, leveraging the existing infrastructure and providing job opportunities and education on sustainable construction materials. The design proposal showcases new ideas to creating environmentally conscious and socially responsible spaces that bring communities together.
